Stephen Allison resigns

In a dramatic sequel to our report yesterday regarding his "alledged" betting involvement the South African-born Racing Victoria Ltd (RVL) chief executive Stephen Allison has now resigned in the wake of the betting scandal. RVL chairman Michael Duffy said he had accepted Allanson's resignation late on Thursday. The scandal surrounding the head of Victorian racing emerged earlier this week with the revelation that he had placed five bets under a false name with a Melbourne bookmaker. It was revealed on Thursday that Allanson had placed a further 37 bets since January this year, all under a false name. While Allanson is permitted to bet, telephone betting rules stipulate that all bets must be made under a correct name. Allanson has been replaced by Bernard Saundry who has been appointed in an acting capacity.
