Kauto Star's season may not be over after he has competed in the totesport Cheltenham Gold Cup on Friday week.
Paul Nicholls is considering sending the imperious eight-year-old to Aintree if all goes well in the big showdown with stablemate Denman.
The Ditcheat handler told the Racing Post: "I have raised the issue with (owner) Clive Smith and we have agreed that if Kauto Star comes out of the Gold Cup fit and healthy, then there's no reason why he couldn't handle another outing.
"In which case we could go on to Aintree with a choice of big-race targets - the Melling Chase over two and a half miles and the totesport Bowl over three miles, one."
