2008 Magic Millions breaks all records

The record breaking 2008 BMW Magic Millions Perth Yearling Sale has come to a close at Belmont.
Friday's fifth and final session gave the opportunity to buyers to complete for a quality selection of yearlings.
The Session Four and Five Sale held this week grossed $1.896 million - bringing the complete sale gross to a record $18,161,500.
Astute buyers looking for value were busy bidding on Friday - with prices ranging from $1,000 to $37,000.
"There were plenty of well conformed and presented yearlings going under the hammer today," Magic Millions managing director David Chester said.
'"There's no doubt a number of these graduates will race to black type level on the track'"
"The past two days have given buyers the opportunity to snap up a likely racetrack performer at a value price."
"Friday wrapped up a fantastic five day auction held over the past two weeks," he added.
Chester is confident the growth experienced with this year's sale will continue on to 2009.
"Due to the travel problems since the EI outbreak a number of yearlings entered for the sale from the Eastern States didn't end up being catalogued."
"This sale is now attracting buyers from around Australia and overseas - new ones every year - and not surprisingly after they see what's on offer they come back year after year."
Chester said results like that of the juvenile race at Moonee Valley on Friday night again confirmed the Perth Yearling Sale's place as one of the best in the country.
"The brilliant debut win of Penny Banger was another great example of the type of racehorse produced in Western Australia," Chester reported.
Bred and sold by Ellie Giles' Korilya Stud, Penny Banger was purchased by the Aquanita team for $67,500 from the 2007 Perth Sale.
A half sister to the stakes winner and Group One Derby placegetter Master Minx, Penny Banger is from the six time winning Twig Ruler mare Miss Firecracker.
Penny Banger's yearling half brother by Bletchley Park made $80,000 to the bid of Canal Enterprises on Sunday.
